Perspective: Young people rally for freedom of religion all around the world

The Global Youth Summit for Freedom of Religion or Belief brought together 530 young participants from 77 countries in a 25-hour virtual event focused on making religious freedom advocacy a global, youth-driven movement.

Organized by the First Freedom Foundation, the International Religious Freedom or Belief Alliance, and Boat People SOS, the summit featured survivor testimonies (including a Yazidi woman who lived through ISIS captivity) and youth-led sessions on genocide, refugees, journalism, interfaith unity, and humanist-faith collaboration. Though representation from the Americas was minimal, organizers emphasized that rising threats to religious freedom worldwide make it essential for young people to take the lead in shaping solutions.
